Commercial – Hair Salon – Cranford, NJ

Project Scope

Deco Hair Salon, located in Cranford, New Jersey is a 750 sq ft space designed to operate as an upscale hair salon. The design style was inspired by the Art Deco watercolor Incantation by George Barbier (1922-23).
The room only had the existing powder room, which was updated with new fixtures and to meet all ADA requirements.

The space is divided within itself into several areas: front desk-seating area, hair Styling stations (5), color station (2 chairs), hair dryers station, wash area, make up-private office room and powder room.

The open space allows for a good flow from each area allowing a full view from the front desk. This setup creates an inviting space with clean lines, and good color coordination selected from the colors on George Barbier’s Illustration: Incantation.

The original space had few columns in the center of the room, which were used to create a private room for the makeup-office room. The room allows the salon owner and employees privacy and at the same time it is used as a make-up room. The room holds a small under-the-counter refrigerator, a microwave, coffee station and make up area including a re-upholstered barber chair in a red vinyl fabric used in the custom designed banquette in Art Deco Style. The vinyl fabric is versatile and perfect for the salon as an easy-to-clean fabric with a wet cloth. The front banquette provides ample seating for the guests waiting to be attended.

The front desk, the stylist stations and chairs were all custom ordered from a hair salon equipment supplier.

The washing area is a highlight of the salon with an extraordinary lighted hair wash unit, including two adjustable sinks. The space was finished off with espresso-finished cabinets and the wash area wall cabinets with frosted glass to complement the washing station.

The walls have a pearl finish application over a base paint from Benjamin & Moore.
